Dental Exams & Cleanings

Regular exams and cleanings at the dentist’s office are an essential part of every effective oral hygiene routine. When you visit the office of Dr. Albee in Rochester for your regular appointments, we will:

N

Review your dental X-rays

N

Evaluate your gums and teeth to detect the presence of periodontal (gum) disease

N

Look for cavities and tooth decay

N

Perform an oral cancer screening

N

Determine the state of current restorations (crowns, fillings, etc.)

N

Thoroughly clean and polish the teeth, removing calculus (tartar) and plaque

We recommend visiting the dentist at least once every six months for your regular cleaning and exams and more often if you have periodontal disease. When you visit the dentist regularly and maintain a good hygiene routine of brushing and flossing at home, a beautiful, healthy smile is always within your grasp.

Sealants

Our dentist will usually place dental sealants on the back molars as soon as they come in, which usually occurs between the ages of six and twelve. Some adults who are prone to tooth decay may also benefit from dental sealants. We can place your sealant in a quick visit at Albee Family Dental in Rochester. When in place, sealants can protect your teeth for years to come.

To learn more about preventive dentistry or dental sealants, why not give us a call today and schedule your consultation with our dentist? We’d love to help you achieve optimal oral health!

Sealants

Dental sealants are designed to protect the teeth that are most prone to dental decay – the back molars.

By placing a tooth-colored or clear plastic material (sealant) over the pits and grooves of the back molars, we can:

N

Create a smooth surface that is easier to keep clean through daily brushing and flossing

N

Effectively block out the plaque and food that cause decay

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is found in most food and water and has long been recognized as an effective agent in the fight against tooth decay.

When ingested, fluoride can help prevent cavities as well as the build-up of plaque and calculus (tartar). Topical fluoride is often found in:

N

In-office dental treatments

N

Toothpaste

N

Mouthwash

Not only is fluoride helpful in preventing tooth decay, it can also help reverse the decay that already plagues your teeth. Dr Albee may recommend a fluoride supplement, such as a gel or varnish, if you are not receiving enough fluoride. Fluoride treatments may also be used during your or your child’s regular six-month appointment.
